What is this used for:

  • Primary Biliary Cirrhosis (PBC)
  • Cholesterol rich gallstones
  • Cystic Fibrosis (Children)
  • Hepatobiliary disorders (Children)


When to not take this medicine:

  • Hypersensitivity/Known Allergy to Ursodeoxycholic acid
  • Calcified gall-stones
  • Acute inflammation of the Gall bladder or Biliary tract.
  • Occlusion of the biliary tract (occlusion of the common bile duct or a cystic duct)
  • Frequent episodes of biliary colic
  • Impaired contractability of the gall bladder
  • Chronic liver disease
  • Peptic ulcers or in those with inflammatory diseases of the small intestine and colon.
  • Unsuccessful Portoenterostomy or without recovery of good bile flow in children with biliary atresia (Children)


How should I take the medicine?

Take this medicine with an adequate amount of water as directed by the physician. Do not take 

this medicine in small or larger amounts than recommended.


How this medicine works:

This medicine reduces the absorption of cholesterol from the intestines and as a result, the cholesterol-rich gall stones get metabolized and dissolved. This treatment may be recommended as an alternative to a surgical procedure to remove the gallstones in few patients.

  • Ciprofloxacin.-Moderate 

Inform your doctor about the use of either of these medicines. When these medicines are taken together it may affect the absorption of the medicines and may affect the effectiveness. Appropriate dose adjustments or suitable alternatives may be considered based on your condition.


Alcohol interactions:

Consumption of alcohol is not recommended while taking this medicine as it may cause interactions and lead to serious adverse effects and may worsen the health condition.
