Migraine is a pounding headache that occurs on either one side of the brain and can last from 4 hours to 72 hours. A person experiencing migraine feels irritated, nausea or vomiting, sensitivity to light & sound and fatigue. In most cases one can see visual disturbances, also known as aura. 

Common Migraine Triggers:

  • Lack of sleep
  • Dehydration

Sinuses are air-filled pockets lined in the interiors of forehead, cheekbones and behind the bridge of the nose. When these pockets become inflamed due to an infection or allergic reaction, it produces more mucus that blocks the channels. This builds up pressure that leads to headaches. One may experience pain on either side of the nose, between your eyes and sides of forehead. In extreme cases, the pain intensifies if you bend down or lie down.

Common Sinus Triggers:

  • Common cold
  • Viral infection
  • Air pollution or smog
  • Airborne allergies
  • Dry or cold air

Cure for Sinus

  • Alternating hot & cold compress on affected area
  • Spice up your meal

3Tension Headache

Tension Headache

Anyone experiencing a tension headache feels dull pain, tightness or pressure on both sides of the head, back of the head and neck. This kind of headache can last from 30 minutes to a few days. Unlike sinus or migraine, tension headaches do not daily activities, vision or balance. These types of headaches occur later in the day and causes irritability, lack of concentration and muscle ache.

Common Tension Headache Triggers:

  • Stress – both physical and emotional
  • Excessive caffeine usage
  • Eye strain 
  • Overexertion
  • Lack of sleep
  • Bad posture
  • Anxiety
  • Low iron levels

4Cluster Headache

Cluster Headache

Cluster headaches are a rare type of headache that occurs in cyclical patterns and can last for 2 weeks to months. It usually wakes you up in the middle of the night and starts around the same time every day. One can feel intense pain around one eye and side of the head. In addition to that, other symptoms include restlessness, excessive tearing, redness of eyes, runny nose, drooping eyelid on the affected side. Abnormalities in one’s body’s biological clock plays a role in cluster headaches.

Common Cluster Headache Triggers

Cluster headaches are not linked to triggers, but alcohol intake can quickly trigger a splitting headache.

Cure for Tension Headache

  • Meditation
  • Deep breathing exercises
  • Diet that is high in magnesium and vitamin B2
  • Ginger tea
  • Use peppermint or eucalyptus oil
