How this medicine works:
Thyroxine sodium is a synthetic version of the thyroid hormone and acts as a natural thyroxine hormone (T4) which is secreted by the thyroid gland. It is an essential hormone in the body that plays a major role in the maintenance of the metabolism, protein synthesis, growth and maintenance of the bone and muscle.

Studies in women taking levothyroxine sodium during pregnancy have not shown an increased risk of congenital abnormalities.
