What is this used for:

When to not take this medicine:

 

  • Hypersensitivity
  • Severe liver disease
  • More than 3 months pregnant
  • Impaired kidney function
  • Suffering from aldosteronism

 

How should i take the medicine:

 

Take this medicine with an adequate amount of water as directed by the physician. Do not take this medicine in small or larger amounts than recommended.

 

How this medicine works:

This medicine works by blocking the effect of angiotensin II. As a result, blood vessels relax and blood pressure is lowered.

 

Side effects:

Common:

  • Dizziness  
  • Low blood pressure with or without symptoms such as dizziness and fainting when standing up
  • Decreased kidney function (signs of renal impairment)

 

Less Common:

  • Headache  
  • Cough  
  • Abdominal pain  
  • Nausea  
  • Diarrhoea  
  • Tiredness  
  • Weakness

 

Rare:

  • Sudden loss of consciousness (syncope)  
  • Spinning sensation (vertigo)  
  • Severely decreased kidney function (signs of acute renal failure)  
  • Muscle spasms, 
  • Abnormal heart rhythm (signs of hyperkalemia)

 

Pregnancy warning: Category D

There is positive evidence of human fetal risk based on adverse reaction data from investigational or marketing experience or studies in humans, but potential benefits may warrant use of the drug in pregnant women despite potential risks.

Renal dose adjustments:

 

Care must be taken for individuals with kidney disease while taking this medicine. Please discuss appropriate dose adjustments with your doctor. Your doctor may also prescribe a suitable alternative on the basis of creatinine clearance values.

 

Hepatic dose adjustments:

 

Care must be taken for individuals with liver disease while taking this medicine. Please discuss appropriate dose adjustments with your doctor. Your doctor may also prescribe a suitable alternative.

 

Drug interactions:

Acebutolol: Moderate

Inform your doctor about the use of either medicines. The use of these medicines are contraindicated since they may give serious adverse reactions which may lead to coma or death. Suitable alternatives may be considered based on the condition of the patient.

 

Aspirin: Moderate

Inform your doctor about the use of either medicines. When these medicines are taken or used together may reduce the effects of valsartan in lowering blood pressure. In addition, these medications may affect your kidney function, especially when they are used together frequently or chronically. If you experience any signs and symptoms like weight loss, fluid retention, swelling, shortness of breath, muscle cramps, tiredness, weakness, dizziness, confusion then inform the doctor on priority. Appropriate dose adjustments may be done, or suitable alternate medicine may be considered based on the condition.


Baclofen: Moderate

Inform your doctor about the use of either medicines. When these medicines are taken or used together may lower your blood pressure. If you experience any signs and symptoms like weight loss, fluid retention, swelling, shortness of breath, muscle cramps, tiredness, weakness, dizziness, confusion then inform the doctor on priority. Choline salicylate: Moderate

Alcohol interactions:

Consumption of alcohol is not recommended while receiving/taking this medicine as it may cause interactions and lead to serious adverse effects and may worsen the health condition.

  • This medicinal product does not require any special storage conditions. 
  • Do not use this medicine if you notice that the pack is damaged or shows signs of tampering
